The Lower Downtown Historic District was formed by the Denver City Council in March 1988. What was once the center of the City of Denver had become home to rundown buildings, empty warehouses, and a railroad station. Due to its central location and architectural, historical, and economic value, LoDo was a prime spot for revitalization. In 1993, play began for Denver’s new Major League baseball franchise, the Colorado Rockies, and the die was set for LoDo’s rebirth. Today, Coors' Field (opened in 1995), restaurants, brew pubs, and loft homes have created a thriving neighborhood.
Bordered by the Platte River, Speer Boulevard, 23rd Street and Lawrence Street, LoDo today is the perfect example of urban living with a Colorado twist.
