Known to residents as Wash Park, the East and West Washington Park neighborhoods are favorites for bungalow architecture and outdoor recreation. Built in 1899, the namesake park covers 165 acres, and features two lakes, a boathouse, 10 tennis courts, 54 flower beds and one of the most popular running and biking trails in Denver. During summer weekends the Park is filled with runners, picnics, and pick-up soccer and softball games.
The Washington Park neighborhood stretches from Downing St. to University Blvd and from Cherry Creek Dr. to the north and I-25 to the south. Wash Park's nearly 7,000 residents are among the most highly educated in Denver: the 2000 census reported that nearly 75% of Wash Park's residents had college degrees. [ MORE ]

Development of the Washington Park neighborhood began soon after Denver was founded in 1858. By 1886, “South Denver” became the City's first suburb. It was annexed into the City in the 1890s and the Park was built in 1899. Most Wash Park homes are brick, a combination of bungalow and Tudor styles, built between 1900 and 1940.
A little Wash Park Trivia? Wash Park is home to a National Historic Landmark (City Ditch, a ditch that runs through Washington Park) and a statue of Wynken, Blynken and Nod commemorating the children's poem "Dutch Lullaby."
